I Am Grateful For The Food

I just finished reading Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt... it's 3.45am and I can't sleep.

What an amazing life story... It's hard to put into words my feelings about Frank McCourt's life in Limerick, Ireland. I have to feel grateful that I didn't have a father who was a total drunk. I was taken from Frank's jouneys of stealing food because he was starving to death to the bleak classrooms of Limerick where Priests would whack 6 year olds for not naming all the Catholic saints correctly . It was heart wrenching to read page after page of desperate childhood suffering that never seemed to be improving. There was no "light at the end of the tunnel" in sight, until the last few pages. *sigh* At the very least, McCourt has won the Pulitzer Prize for penning his incredible battle against Irish poverty in the 1930s... an unforgiving time for a penniless family of six.

Malaysians are a very fortunate lot, to be given this country of plenty. People just don't realize how lucky they trully are.
