First Day on the Job

Well, yesterday was my very first day of being a TV host... I was pretty nervous about it. It took me AGES to fall asleep Wed. night...i was tossing and turning in bed. Finally I crashed out at 3am ( I think) and woke up at 9am for shoot. I was given information earlier Wednesday evening for script the very next morning…I was stressed to say the least. I sent Reiki to the situation and I had a great day on shoot, I was so relieved…Reiki never fails me.

After I had printed out my cue cards ( I’m the scriptwriter for the show as well….it’s a 2 in 1 kinda deal…but I’m getting paid for both)…I was sent to make up. Wow…my flaming gay Chinese make up artist burst through the production house doors, with an entire entourage. He had four adolescent-looking girls and a really chubby woman with him (do make-up artists have managers now??).

As I sat down for make up I couldn’t resist…I said, “Wow, you have a really big team.” And he replied, “Well, they are here for the band members.” I found out later that they were artists-in-training…they didn’t have a CLUE. Ha ha! I’m glad they didn’t touch my hair. It was slightly uncomfortable having five eager women starring at my head as Mr. Make Up did his thang.

I thought he was just going to do something simple, like, blow dry it straight. Boy was I wrong! Instead, he got about 100 bobby pins out and a curling iron. I braced myself for the worse. In the end, I looked like a Miss Chinese Universe contestant, ready to compete in the formal evening wear session. It looked pretty cool, but I am a VJ for a show about bands not about High School Proms. It wasn't that bad actually, I'm just getting used to this whole getting made up thing.....I’m just glad to even HAVE a make-up artist. He’s very creative, I’ll give him that….but a bit overly confident. What is it about make-up artists and hair stylists?? Even if you tell them it’s NOT what you want, they’ll always say, “But it looks good, what! Dis is de TREND now, ma.” So, there’s really no arguing with a gay, or straight person messing with your hair. Just surrender. That’s what I did in the end….but when he started to add fluorescent green eye shadow to the edges of my eyes, I attempted to put my foot down. My protest was in vain. Back to my cue cards…humpf! After my two hour transformation from average girl to Miss Taiwan VJ… I looked at myself on camera…not bad…he knows what he’s doing. I stand corrected.

Anyways, so much to tell…I can’t possibly write my entire experience down right now. I feel like I’m doing something good to help out the independent music scene here, cuz that’s who we invite onto the show…independent bands who are under exposed but have a lot of potential. It was really fun getting to know the two bands who performed on the show. They are really talented.

Well, one episode down…12 more to go and 26 more bands to go too!
