I just have to vent about one of my pet peeves… smokers who smoke INDOORS when I’m in the same room. This is one of the negative aspects of working in TV production…everyone SMOKES! And as a result, I end up smoking as well…second hand. What’s really really super annoying, is when I complain and say.. ”um…smoke bothers me” to someone who has just lit up a cigarette…and they look at me aghast and just cant believe I would have a problem with second hand smoke. I mean, OH MY GOD! Why on earth would a non-smoker object, to someone smoking INDOORS and filling up the room with deadly chemicals!!??
BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO CHOOSES NOT TO SMOKE, MAKES A CONSIOUS HEALTH DECISION NOT TO!
For fuck sake…it’s ridiculous. Lets be upfront and honest about this, no bullshit: people who smoke, actually make the decision to inhale chemicals into their lungs and risk developing lung cancer DESPITE all the evidence linking smoking to all kinds of diseases. So, if you ask me…I guess since they don’t even mind endangering their own health… why the hell should they care about mine? Well, for the record…to all you smokers out there who are either unaware of how we feel or don’t understand why we non-smokers cringe when you light up…it’s because you’re not the ONLY one smoking…you’re forcing US to smoke as well…and it’s not ok.
If you really think about it, an individual who smokes in the presence of non-smokers (who are then forced to inhale second hand smoke), would be the same as someone physically forcing a non-drinker to drink alcohol against their will.
I would encourage every non-smoker out there to SAY SOMETHING the next time a smoker lights up.
