FINAL CUT
OH ME GOSH! Our (Yazid and I) little documentary made it to the finals of the Freedom FIlm Fest!! There were over 40 film entries and ours was among the 20 films short listed for the festival. Our screening is on Friday May 14th at 7pm SHARP. So, hopefully...I will see some of your smiling faces at my screening..and for those who can't make it...I'm sure you will give me a great reason for why you didn't come.
I'm so very pleased to have our creative work recognized...and it's our first documentary ever. Incredibly, producing my own documentary film has turned out to be one of the most satisfying personal goals I've ever achieved. I find myself saying out loud sometimes: Lydia, why the hell didn’t you do this sooner!? Well, I suppose the timing wasn’t right…and Yazid wasn’t in my life just yet…with him around, any production is possible.
Although I’m elated over the fact that our documentary will be shown on THE BIG SCREEN…I’m still quite nervous about the whole affair…particularly because there will be a “question and answer” session at the end of the screening… I ABSOLUTELY DETEST public speaking. I am fully aware of the fact that we will only be sitting at the edge of the stage, not behind a scary podium… and there will be other film makers beside me answering questions as well…but…speaking in front of countless strangers causes me to sweat profusely and I actually get “the shakes”… (by the way, imagining everyone in the audience is naked- doesn’t work!). I suppose this fear stems from the fact that I’m a perfectionist and don’t want to say anything silly. It’s human nature, I know. So, when in doubt…I use Reiki.
