More later...

Mom's 50th

I haven't blogged for ever and ever...I didn't even know blogger had changed...sheesh...well a lot has happened in this last month I've been neglecting my little online diary.

I threw a gigantic party of gargantuan proportions for my mother’s 50th birthday on June 8th (which reaffirms my decision NEVER to go into event management! Yuck!) It turned out fantastic! The house was decorated with the usual balloons in assorted colours with shiny tinsel streamers (red, gold and blue) and we had about five large vases with birds of paradise and other tropical flowers all over the house. I was in flower arrangement heaven!

I actually cooked a chicken curry, made mashed potatoes, potato salad, lasagna, and some other stuff…my mashed potatoes were very popular…gone in 15 minutes *poof*, my first attempt at a lasagna turned out ok lah…a bit chewy… but it was one of the first dishes to disappear so I assume everyone ate it anyways…I’ve become a lot better at the lasagna recently *wink wink*

About 80 people attended this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of ageing…our house just managed to hold all of them! We had 10 tables in the garden and in the driveway, which were filled (we never have that many people in our house!). All the hard work was well worth it when everyone was saying “how wonderful” the party was and “the food was fantastic.” *grin*

I sighed an enormous sigh of relief at around 10.30p.m. when I was able to finally sit down and semi-relax with a plate of food and a tall glass of wine…Now I understand what event managers mean when they say, “when you see it all happening in front of you and everyone is happy it makes you feel so satisfied.” My mom thanked me many times for throwing her the best party ever, so that was the most important person to please! But I gently reminded her afterwards that I would not be organizing her 70th birthday party.
